I have been using a Kenwood DDX9906XR for a few years now and it was an incredibly expensive head unit. It has been fine and I don't regret my purchase. I have recent experience with adding both a branded unit (Pioneer) and an Android head unit to two different cars. I was able to install a Pioneer unit into my wife's Fiat 500x after cutting a bit of plastic and it's a seamless integration. It's also reliable. It boots up and Android Auto is connected with music started by the time we have our seatbelts on.
The other unit is a random Android screen that replaced the dash storage tray in my BWM E84 X1. It connects to the OEM radio via an Aux cable. It looks great and adds a backup camera as well as working with steering wheel controls. What it is NOT, however, is fast, user-friendly, or reliable. Phone calls only work right if I connect media to the head unit and calls to the car's OEM head unit. It will work with Android Auto and Carplay (wireless even), but it takes forever for everything to boot up and one needs to learn rituals and incantations to make it work. It uses Zlink5 and requires both Bluetooth and WiFi or a cable. It launches Zlink5 and fails to connect. I need to go to the bluetooth section in the software and "connect" the phone. It says "connection failed" and then Zlink5 opens and launches Android Auto. I've learned a way to get it going within about a minute, but it's not ideal. What's also not great is that updates from Google and screw this thing up, which has happened. An Android Auto update caused an audio bug wherein the music quality becomes muffled the assistant speaks. I've just manually installed an older Android Auto 10.x version onto my phone and I hope that fixes it.
The Android units are cool in the way that they're customizable, but they're not practical if you just want to drive with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. If a branded and supported option were feasible for my car, then I'd choose it. Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, whatever.@esmokah6 หลายเดือนก่อน

When I looked at replacing my headunit the one key thing I looked at was the outputs. I found the android HU were pretty low compared to the named branded ones unless you spend a fair amount like that of the Joying. This isnt to say that theyre bad, but for me the amplifier in a car is a key feature. Yes you can have a HU which plays videos, games, reads emails etc.. but ultimately what CORE features are you needing a new HU for? For me it was maps, music, BT and radio. Yes I bought a reverse cam and wired that in too as it supported it and was a cool feature to have, but the night and day comparisons come when I turn my HU up. The Joying here is probably the only one I would go for if I was to choose again. It has some awesome options. Having said that Ive had ICE installs in the past with multiple subs and speakers so know what to trust, albeit expensive. The main issue I had with the android options was the many chinese options which makes it a total minefield. Very good video, appreciated!

If you or anyone else is still interested (probably already bought one), I just bought and built in a high spec Xtrons unit with 8 core, 64Gb+4Gb, DSP and to be honest it's quite disappointing and frustrating:
- 4G is unworkably slow and unstable despite having the antenna ON the dashboard
- I can't run any apps or even launchers on it unless I am in the BT/phone mode because this unit doesn't have a brake bypass, so no Spotify, launchers or most other apps, which are all blocked with "dont'watch video while driving". I should connect the brake wire but I'm not that technical with wires.
- a LOT of static noise that I will have to find out where it's coming from
- Something smells burnt, not sure if it's the unit overheating already at 20c outside temperature or something else
- touch is laggy and unit is a bit slower than I expected for this price point
- unit has too much dashboard spacing on top and bottom
- hardly any customization settings
- it's Android 12 (which it says in the system info) but looks a lot older
I think I'll returning it for something more reliable like a 2DIN Joying unit with a seperate 4G dongle or so.@joeyallco*ck10113 หลายเดือนก่อน

Will second anyone who says avoid Joying. I had a unit that died after 2 weeks. To get a replacement, they required me to take a video of myself using alligator clips to connect the unit directly to the car battery. It was an incredibly sketchy procedure to ask a customer to do.

Hi, thank you for the review, what is the standby current? Bought a used car with a fancy Android stereo, standby current was 470ma, drained my battery very quick... Lucky the seller gave me the original radio. Since then I don't buy generic chinese android stereos as they do not specify standby current

Atoto make the best ones. They also have high end Toshiba Class A amplifiers. So have great sound quality too.

I love my Atoto S8. I just wish their subwoofer output wasn't so ridiculously low voltage. Other than that, love it.

I was really hoping for you to speak on the most important part of any car stereo unit, which is the power output. While branded units like Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood etc give standard max output of 4 x 55 watts, while some pioneer and sony units even give 4 x 75 watts output, almost all of the branded and non branded chinese units go only to a max of 4 x 47 watts max..this should be discussed any any car stereo review and i am sure, among the above 3, only kenwood provides better total power.
@andrewhigdon83462 ปีที่แล้ว
Very seriously the most important thing if you like your music loud.
@RameshMekkara2 ปีที่แล้ว
@@andrewhigdon8346 If you don't want to take comments, that's fine mate. When there is no power, distortion starts....that is why power is one of the important criteria, if not the only one.

The problem is, the big brand head units are trash, hell, most built in infotainment units are trash, they have no idea or car about refresh rates, smoothness, they all seem laggy and have bare minimum specs, the Chinese Android head units can also be super trash, I usually go for the 4+GB of RAM
@StephanAnagnostaras2 ปีที่แล้ว
They also fail at the same rate as the no-names.

Wooow, you're really great!, I was struggling to find a good aftermarket stereo for my Mazda 3 2011 and you totally convinced me and opened my eyes!!. That analogy between android and iphone was great!, I was thinking about getting a Kenwood, but there's no need!, after watching this video and the other one where you're reviewing an Eonon stereo, I am totally convinced I'll go with Eonon, they have a model right for my car and need to stop looking for more, Thanks a lot dude!!, this was extremely useful for me!!! You're very clear and detailed on explaining, congrats and greetings from Mexico City!!! By the way, what do you think about Eonon Q63PRO? 😁😁😁😁
@nickdibart2 ปีที่แล้ว
great video, it did answer some questions I had. Have you had the android units in a vehicle with safety features and lighting controls integrated into the OEM infotainment? I'm wondering if I would lose important functionality by swapping my 2018 Mazda 3's infotainment system for one of the android units, because the stock software is just unbearably bad.

Highly interesting to me, thank you. Have an ancient 2012 double din Kenwood (VERY laggy, buggy touch screen sensitivity), pre-Apple CarPlay era. Looking to perhaps upgrade to modern large screen, wondering if any or all will have same or similar connectors for 4 speakers, outboard amp, and whether the larger screen(s)/ above 7" will fit my vehicle. Ideas? Thanks for knowledge, liked and subscribed!

My Kenwood head unit was crap, they did not update their software. I have had a pumpkin for 10 years now and it is 1gb ram, it works fine for what it is supposed to do. It all works fine. Good after sales service too

Thank you for your very informative video. I'm very interested in a Joying unit. I'm hoping you can answer two questions for me.
First, does the unit dim automatically when you turn the headlights on, and does it get brighter and dimmer as you adjust the brightness of the dash lights?
Second, I drive a noisy old Jeep Cherokee. When making phone calls, I use a one-ear headset. Is there a headset/earbuds jack on the Joying unit, or can one be added?
Thanks@iputinkayo77953 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I bought a CHEAP 10.1 inch Windows CE unit for $35 bucks. as far as the unit goes it's just fine for 95% of the consumers out there.. these really inexpensive units are more tailored to video playback then they are for audio use. there's something nice to have in your car basically.
for audio quality? the joying make sense for the sole reason it has a digital output. it also means you now have an additional cost of setting up your system if you choose to go that route.
however if you're only interested in audio quality and you want to have the best you can possibly have for the least amount of money? You don't need a headunit. In fact? Why bother?
you already have a phone so use that. most people use their phones anyways just for directions or navigation and they usually have a windshield mount.
if you really need navigation simply get yourself a large tablet and get a tablet holder in your done. chances are you probably already have a tablet to use.
if that's the case? You now have an ultimate audio system.
all you need to do is add an external amplifier and for 98% of you? Walla! finished with your car audio install from at least the electronics source standpoint.
many amps on the market today that support Bluetooth support apt-x, so that's it. You are done.
some of you have phones that actually work really well with a three-and-a-half millimeter Jack and you're still able to make phone calls with the built in phone microphones . Xiaomi is really good at this.
_For the Basic Ultimate S.Q. System_
Phone> USB Dac ( *Topping AD-10* ) > Amp(s).
[Free] [ $10 ~ $100 ] [ $63 ]
Add some great DIY speakers, and sound treatment, Custom mount the drivers, And you are done!
All the problems, noise, etc are gone. Its the best simple system you can do. Nothing can touch it for simplicity, S.Q. & Cost.
again, if S.Q. Is your MAIN want? This is it. Bar none.@kingkong25983 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Although Teyes CC3/CC2 plus and Ownice C970 have more or less the same components, you should took them in this comparison with the Xtrons and the Joying. Both have a DSP onboard with optical out and a build in Apple carplay and Android auto, with there new UIS7862 (Unisoc ums512) SOC, 6 gb mem and 128 storage, they blow the PX 5 and PX 6 headunits out of the water.
The CC3 has even a fan on the soc.@oslozoya12 ปีที่แล้ว
