Re: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160 Replacement (2024)

Hello.

I just bought an AX210 and installed it in my laptop motherboard, however I am having some issues with it: the OS simply does not recognize it. Beforehand, I attach the description of my machine below.

- Product name: S14BW01;

- Processor type: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N3060 @ 1.60GHz; And

- Previous wireless card: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160NGW.

Below are the settings of my OS.

# uname-a

Linux myusername 6.8.0-31-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Apr 20 00:40:06 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

And below the lspci result.

# lspci

The command lshw, shows AX210 as a bluetooth device, which I think it is expected, however, not mention of the AX210 as a wireless device.

The full lshw output is presented at the end of this post, I am postponing this for easening the reading.

The ifconfig returns the following output.

The hwinfo returns the following.

# hwinfo --network --short

lo Loopback network interface

virbr0 Ethernet network interface

Do I have to install the drivers? I mean, as far as I know, in order to install the drivers, the computer must at least be able to "see" the device, is my reasoning right?

Thanks and regards.

Re: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3160 Replacement (2024)

FAQs

How fast is Intel Wireless-AC 3160? ›

The Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11ac, dual band, 1x1, Wi-Fi + Bluetooth® adapter lets you move at the speed of life with faster speeds (up to 433 Mbps1), higher capacity, broader coverage and longer battery life.

How to install intel dual band wireless-ac 3160? ›

Additional details
  1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
  2. Read the information in the dialog window.
  3. Download and install any prerequisites that are identified in the dialog window before proceeding.
  4. Click the Install button.

What is Intel R dual band wireless-AC? ›

802.11ac, Dual Band, 80MHz, 2x2

Intel® Wireless-AC enables smoother streaming of higher resolution videos, fewer dropped connections and less congestion, and more speeds further away from the router.

What does Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 do? ›

The Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 detects its location and automatically configures the Wi-Fi to match it. Regulatory updates are easily managed during the product lifecycle so users can travel worldwide without compliance issues. on your specific operating system, hardware and software configurations.

Is Intel 802.11 ac Wi-Fi better than Wi-Fi 6? ›

Theoretically, Wi-Fi 6 can transfer data at up to 10Gbps, compared with max speeds of around 3.5Gbps for 802.11ac.

Is AC the fastest Wi-Fi? ›

Although 802.11ac is the most commonly available Wi-Fi standard, it isn't the fastest one available. Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, was introduced in 2019 and is currently the fastest Wi-Fi standard.

Is dual band AC Wi-Fi good? ›

Dual-band routers or devices have two frequency bands, the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The 5GHz band provides faster data transfer rates and less interference than the 2.4GHz band, making it ideal for tasks that require high bandwidth, such as online gaming or video streaming.

Is Wireless AC backwards compatible? ›

As an added benefit, 802.11ac is backward compatible. This is especially important given the huge number of Wi-Fi devices already in use. Having the backward compatibility ensures 802.11ac devices will be able to connect to existing 802.11 protocol networks operating in the same 5 GHz band, albeit at slower speeds.

What does dual band 802.11 AC mean? ›

Supporting dual band allows the AP to broadcast both a 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Your older Wi-Fi devices can connect to the 2.4GHz network while your 802.11ac devices connect to the 5GHz network for maxi- mum speed and capacity.

What is the difference between dual band and AC? ›

Dual-Band Wireless AC Routers have the ability to broadcast on two different frequencies: 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Not only does this make it backwards compatible, but it also means that they are less prone to interference from other devices.

What is the difference between Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi AC? ›

802.11ac vs 802.11n Speed

WiFi is always promoted using 'theoretical' speeds and by this standard 802.11ac is capable of 1300 megabits per second (Mbps) which is the equivalent of 162.5 megabytes per second (MBps). This is 3x faster than the typical 450Mbps speed attributed to 802.11n.

What is the benefit of dual band Wi-Fi? ›

Dual-band routers are more efficient, have longer range, are less prone to interference from household devices, such as microwaves and older cordless phones, and are faster. However, this efficiency is maximized when using 5 GHz compatible devices.

What is the speed of dual band wireless AC? ›

The theoretical maximum speed of 802.11ac is 1300 Mbps, which is impressive compared with the 450 Mbps theoretical maximum speed of 802.11n.

Should I enable dual band Wi-Fi? ›

It's also a great option for those who live in smaller spaces and don't have to worry about how far the signal will travel. Many modern routers are dual-band and support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals. This allows you to choose the best frequency for each device based on its needs and location.

How fast is Intel 802.11 ac Wi-Fi module? ›

802.11ac wave1

Data rates varying modulation types and number of spatial streams; 200 Mbps, 400 Mbps, 433 Mbps, 600 Mbps, 867 Mbps. See table below. 24 non-overlapping unlicensed national information infrastructure (UNII) channels in 5 GHz frequency band.

What is the maximum Wi-Fi speed for AC router? ›

The theoretical max speed of 802.11ac is eight 160MHz 256-QAM channels, each of which are capable of 866.7Mbps — a grand total of 6,933Mbps, or just shy of 7Gbps. That's a transfer rate of 900 megabytes per second — more than you can squeeze down a SATA 3 link.

How fast is the Wi-Fi on the Time Capsule 802.11 ac? ›

With three-stream 802.11ac technology, the Airport Time Capsule can reach data rates of up to 1.3Gbps, which is triple the 802.11n standard.

How fast is ubiquiti AC? ›

Practically the AC-Pro can reach roughly 500 Mbps. But only if the channel width is set at 80MHZ. But it is recommended to use the default of 40MHZ. That gives a theoretical max speed of 887Mbps.
