Dan Evans raised concerns with his latest Instagram post.

Dan Evans has spared fears that he could retire following his latest defeat at the Monte-Carlo Masters. The British No. 3 reached a career-high ranking and won his biggest title last summer but his progress was derailed when he picked up a season-ending calf injury. Since then, Evans has struggled for form and has only won three matches so far this year.

Evans suffered another disappointing loss in Monte Carlo, crashing out to Sebastian Ofner 6-1 6-4 in the first round. The world No. 50 had two chances to break in a lengthy opening game but things quickly fell apart when he failed to take them.

The Brit has often enjoyed success on the clay and reached the semi-final in Monaco three years ago but he is now 0-2 on the surface this season. And the defeats appear to be getting to Evans, who raised eyebrows with his latest post on social media.

The 33-year-old shared an Instagram story of himself alongside two friends, writing: “Retirement x3”. Fans quickly caught on, questioning whether it was just a joke or something more serious.

One fan reshared his post to Reddit and voiced their concern. “He's nearly 34 and has struggled for form over the last 18 months, despite two career achievements in winning his first ATP 500 and reaching world no. 21.

“I'd be sad to see him retire as I think his creative style is appealing to watch and offers variety on the tour. I also think he stands as an example for players under 6 foot,” Indi_1991 wrote. Curlyhairedyani replied: “No it can’t be. Say sike Dan.” And Pretend_Tea6261 added: “Would not surprise me. Dan's form has cratered in the past 8 months and age is catching up.”

Evans is still entered in several tournaments, including next week’s Barcelona Open and the upcoming Masters 1000 in Madrid. He will be hoping that his good memories in Barcelona can help him return to his winning ways.

Last year, the world No. 50 reached the semi-final, losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. A few months later, he won the biggest title of his career at the ATP 500 in Washington and reached a career-high of No. 21 in the world.

He pushed Alcaraz to four sets in a thrilling US Open match but his season ended in Vienna when he picked up a calf injury during his first-round match against Frances Tiafoe, with the issue ruling him out of the Davis Cup.

So far in 2024, he has racked up a 3-9 record with his only wins coming in Adelaide, Los Cabos and Miami.
